The architect who designed and lives in this house wanted it to stand as a punctuation mark at the end of a street of terraced Victorian cottages. Unlike those houses, the front courtyard has to work as the main garden space. It has been screened by timber trellis that, standing right on the edge of the boundary, maximises the space available for the family to use to eat and relax. The gnarled trunk of the olive tree perfectly juxtaposes the smooth lines of the house.
