The courtyard is designed to maximise the use of a small outside space. The garden functions as family dining room, as a children's play area, and as a space for evening entertaining. In such a small space everything must be perfect. Three hard materials - Italian basalt, glass and cedar - are repeated across both levels of the space. Planting balances the scheme. Only objects necessary for use and balance are included, nothing more.
